Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was second, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonnen third and Mercedes' Nico Rosberg fourth - 24 seconds behind the winner. Toro Rosso's Max Verstapen finished eighth but could find himself in trouble with his team after refusing to obey orders to give up his position to team mate Carlos Sainz who was ninth.
