US Open: Nadal moves ahead, Osaka is out

Rafael Nadal has advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Croatian Marin Cilic.

The second-seeded Spaniard will next face Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who beat Germany’s Alexander Zverev 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3.

Elsewhere, Frenchman Gael Monfils eased into the next round, beating Pablo Andujar 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

Meanwhile, defending women's champion Naomi Osaka has crashed out after losing 7-5, 6-4 to Switzerland's Belinda Bencic.

It means Osaka loses her world number one ranking, with Ashleigh Barty returning to the top spot.
