UAE rider Omar Al Marzooqi took the 19th spot in the finals of the individual show jumping event at the Paris Olympics.
The 21-year-old, who won the silver medal at the Asian Games last year, finished with 8 faults and a time of 83.38 seconds in the final stage that featured 30 riders.
The competition saw only three riders manage clear rounds, leading to a nail-biting jump-off to determine the podium.
Germany's Christian Kukuk won gold, while Swiss Steve Guerdat clinched silver and Maikel van der Vleuten of the Netherlands secured bronze.
The day had its share of drama, too, as world champion Henrik von Eckermann of Sweden experienced a shocking fall after his horse, King Edward, spooked.
Meanwhile, British team gold winner Harry Charles had to withdraw before the final, deeming his horse Romeo 88 unfit to compete.
