Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been awarded the Freedom of Wrexham at a ceremony in the city's Guildhall, just hours before Wrexham AFC's match against Notts County at the Racecourse.

The honour, which is the highest civic award in the county, was granted to the duo by the council in recognition of their contribution to the city.

Reynolds and McElhenney, who are the owners of the football club, created a documentary about the team and their journey to return to the English Football League.

During the ceremony, Reynolds, who is best known for his role in Deadpool, shared his nervousness during the initial Zoom call with the Wrexham Supporters' Trust. He also spoke about his realisation of the potential for something "truly great" during that moment.

It's also been reported that Ryan Reynolds has bought a £1.5million pad near Wrexham as he looks to spend more time there.

On Monday, Wrexham returned to the top of the National League table thanks to a penalty save from goalkeeper Ben Foster, who came out of retirement less than a month ago. The 40‑year‑old saved a 96th‑minute penalty to deliver a victory that leaves Phil Parkinson’s team three points clear with four games to play. Wrexham trailed at the interval but stirred along with an impassioned crowd to lead 3-2 with 11 minutes left.
