Former world No. 1 Andy Murray has decided to skip the doubles at the US Open this month in order to focus on his singles career.

"My goal is to get back playing at the level that I want to on the singles court, and I've decided that I need to focus all my energies on that right now," he said during an interview with the BBC.

"The US Open, doubles and mixed, can be another couple of weeks that you are slowing things down."

Murray lost his singles comeback against Frenchman Richard Gasquet last week in Cincinnati — his first since the "life-changing" hip surgery.

The 32-year-old Scotsman has accepted a wild card entry for Winston-Salem singles next week and might go on to compete at a Challenger tournament.
