Who is eligible for Pfizer-BioNTech booster jab? DHA explains

Those who've taken both Sinopharm and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID jabs are exempt from taking the booster shots as their immunity is quite strong.

That's according to the guidelines issued by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

It comes after the UAE announced one-shot booster jabs for all citizens and residents.

Is there an age cut-off for taking the booster?

The Pfizer-BioNTech booster is available for those over the age of 18.

How long must the gap be between the second COVID-19 shot and the new booster jab?

There must be a minimum six-month gap between the second vaccine shot and the booster jab.

Is there a cooldown period between the flu jab and the COVID-19 booster shot?

There's no waiting period necessary between when receiving the flu shot and the booster jab.

Which vaccines are eligible to opt for Pfizer booster?

All UAE residents who have taken the Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford-Astrazeneca, Sputnik V and Sinopharm COVID vaccine are eligible for the Pfizer booster.

Are there exceptions for those who have already taken a Pfizer shot after the Sinopharm vaccine?

UAE residents who have taken a Pfizer dose after two shots of Sinopharm are not required to take a booster shot at this point.

Who should take the Pfizer third dose or Pfizer booster?

Those who are immunocompromised are being recommended to opt for a third shot of the Pfizer vaccine. Meanwhile, those with a healthy immune system can take the Pfizer booster, provided that the second COVID-19 dose was taken six months prior.

Are pregnant and lactating women eligible for the booster?

Yes, pregnant and lactating women can take the booster.

Where are the booster shots available?

The DHA has allocated eight centres across Dubai to administer the booster jab. These centres require a prior appointment to access the service.

What documents are required for the booster?

UAE nationals need to present their Emirates ID, while Dubai-visa holders must present their Emirates ID and their passport copy with the Dubai residence visa stamp.

Those who reside in Dubai but have a UAE residence visa issued in another Emirate need to present their Emirates ID, passport copy and proof of residence in Dubai.
