UN needs to act on Gaza ceasefire, UAE says

@UAEMissionToUN / X

The UAE has called on the United Nations to act on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during a meeting with the UN Security Council, where His Excellency Mohamed Abushahab, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN said taking action has been "very late".

His Excellency delivered a statement on behalf of the Arab Group at the recent UN Security Council meeting.

Speaking through a translator, Abushahab referred to the recent attacks on camps located in safe zones and called for action from the UN, which followed Algeria presenting their draft resolution and calling for an immediate end to the conflict in Rafah.

During his statement, Abushahab said, "The Arab Group calls on this Council to positively and constructively engage in the negotiations related to the draft resolution put forward by the State of Algeria yesterday. The draft resolution aims to stop the Israeli military attack on Rafah and demands an immediate ceasefire.

"In this regard, we stress the importance of adopting this resolution as the Security Council has been very late in taking such an urgent step."
