President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has pardoned 2,269 prisoners across the UAE on the occasion of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad.

His Highness also pledged to cover all fines and penalties imposed on the inmates, who were convicted of varying crimes.

The UAE has historically pardoned prisoners during special occasions and circumstances.

During Eid Al Adha in June, 2,890 prisoners were pardoned from across the country under the directives of the separate Emirates' rulers.

The UAE president recently pardoned the defendants involved in a brawl during a football match in Abu Dhabi in October, as well as the Bangladeshi nationals involved in protests across several emirates in July.
