UAE President orders release of 988 prisoners

The UAE's President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 988 prisoners ahead of Eid Al Adha.

This humanitarian gesture is aimed at giving the inmates an opportunity to rebuild their lives and return to their families.

The Rulers of the Emirates usually pardon prisoners to mark major religious occasions.

Eid Al Adha will begin on Wednesday, June 28.
