The UAE's President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received his Chilean counterpart Gabriel Boric Font at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

The official welcome ceremony for the visiting leader included a guard of honour and a 21-gun salute.

Sheikh Mohamed accompanied Boric to the dais of honour, where the national anthems of the UAE and Chile were played.

It's the first trip to the UAE by a Chilean President since diplomatic relations were established between the two nations in 1978.

During their meeting in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed and Boric reviewed progress in UAE-Chilean relations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the commercial, investment and developmental sectors.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest and discussed their countries' perspectives on supporting international efforts to enhance stability, cooperation and development worldwide.

Sheikh Mohamed emphasised the importance the UAE places on strengthening relations with Latin American countries.

He added that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed between the UAE and Chile during Boric's visit marks a major milestone in their economic relations.
