UAE President discusses strategic ties with EU chief

The UAE's President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone call with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, to discuss strengthening relations between the UAE and the EU, and exploring ways to achieve shared interests.

During the call, they reviewed key regional and international issues, focusing particularly on developments in the Middle East.

Both leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing the need to protect civilians under international law and ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian aid.

They also highlighted the importance of containing regional tensions to prevent further escalation and instability, while advocating for a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to deepening strategic relations with the EU and its member states, and expressed support for enhancing Gulf-European cooperation.

He praised the European Union’s humanitarian efforts in the region and reiterated the UAE’s dedication to working with international parties, including the EU, to prevent conflict and provide aid to affected civilians.

For her part, Ursula von der Leyen expressed appreciation for the UAE's role in promoting regional stability and its ongoing humanitarian initiatives in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as its cooperation with the EU across various sectors.
