The UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) is calling on citizens and residents to avoid travelling or face strict medical checks upon their return.

It's a precautionary measure to limit the spread of COVID-19. It will see passengers arriving in the country go through medical tests and possible self-quarantine.

Those who test positive will be transferred to a designated health facility for treatment and quarantine to ensure their safety and to avoid contact with others, the statement from MOHAP added.

Rapid laboratory testing and control procedures have also been activated at border crossings.

The latest directive is based on guidelines from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Authorities have reiterated that the UAE is well prepared and equipped to curb the spread of the disease, and this decision has been taken to ensure the safety of the community.
