UAE honours Indonesian President with highest civilian award

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has been honoured with the UAE's highest civilian award.

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented the 'Order of Zayed' to Widodo in recognition of his efforts to strengthen relations between the UAE and Indonesia.

The award ceremony took place at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi during the Indonesian President's state visit to the UAE.

Sheikh Mohamed expressed his wishes for Widodo's continued health and wellbeing, and for further progress and prosperity for the Indonesian people.

The Indonesian President expressed his pride in receiving the award as it reflects the distinguished relations between the two countries and bears the name of the late Sheikh Zayed, a globally inspiring figure with an enduring legacy of humanitarian values.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohamed also presented the 'Order of the Union' to Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, in appreciation of his efforts in strengthening strategic relations between the UAE and Indonesia.

Sheikh Mohamed and Widodo discussed various aspects of cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia, especially in the fields of economy, investment, renewable energy, food security, infrastructure, education, health and climate action.

The two leaders also witnessed the announcement of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at strengthening  bilateral cooperation. These included:

  • An agreement to install solar energy systems on industrial and commercial rooftops in Indonesia.
  • An MoU on public budget management.
  • An MoU between the Central Bank of the UAE and the Central Bank of Indonesia regarding smart systems.
  • An MoU on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
  • An MoU between the UAE Presidential Court and the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment on the establishment of the Mohamed bin Zayed – Joko Widodo Mangrove Research Centre in Bali, Indonesia.
  • An MoU between Dubai International Financial Centre and the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN).
  • An MoU between Indonesia’s Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and Eagle Hills Properties on cooperation in real estate development, tourism investment, and the management of airports and hotels.
  • A framework agreement on maritime patrol aircraft.

Following the conclusion of his two-day state visit, Joko Widodo was seen off at the Presidential Airport by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
