UAE expresses solidarity with Libya over storm victims

WAM

The UAE expressed its solidarity with Libya over the victims of the floods caused by Storm Daniel, which made landfall in the North African nation over the weekend.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed its condolences and sympathy to the country and its people, and to the families of the victims of this tragedy.

The powerful storm and heavy floods have killed at least 150 people in the eastern city of Derna over the last two days and the death toll is expected to rise, the head of the Red Crescent in Benghazi said on Monday.

Footage on social media showed people stranded on the roofs of their vehicles as Storm Daniel hit Benghazi, Sousse, Al Bayda, Al-Marj and Derna, a city on the Mediterranean some 250 km east of Benghazi.
