UAE dismisses Port Sudan Authority's move to cut diplomatic ties

WAM

The UAE has stated that it does not recognise the recent decision made by the Port Sudan Authority to sever diplomatic ties.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Port Sudan Authority does not represent the legitimate government of Sudan or its people.

It described the announcement as a political reaction, coming just a day after the International Court of Justice dismissed a case filed by the authority.

The Ministry also rejected what it called “deplorable” statements from the group, calling them a diversionary tactic aimed at undermining peace efforts.

The UAE stressed its long-standing ties with the Sudanese people and reiterated its support for a civilian-led government in Sudan - one that prioritises peace, stability and the wellbeing of its citizens.

Officials also confirmed that the Sudanese community in the UAE, along with Sudanese visitors, will not be affected by the Port Sudan Authority’s actions.

The UAE has maintained a supportive relationship with Sudan for over five decades and says it will continue to stand by the Sudanese people.
