UAE delegation arrives in Beirut to reopen Embassy

A high-level UAE delegation has arrived in Lebanon’s capital to reopen the UAE Embassy in Beirut, as relations warm with the election of a new president.

The delegation is set to undertake the necessary measures to reopen the mission and emphasised the UAE’s unwavering position toward Lebanon’s unity and national sovereignty.

The move comes after new president Joseph Aoun was elected last week after the position was vacant for two year, as deeply divided factions were unable to agree on a candidate able to win enough votes in the 128-seat parliament.

In October 2021, then-Lebanese Minister of Information, George Kardahi, accused the UAE and Saudi Arabia of being the aggressors in the Yemen war, leading to diplomatic tensions and the subsequent closure of the Emirati embassy.
