RTA confirms electric scooter ban

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed to ARN News that it has formally banned electric scooters in the emirate.

It has been banned for personal and commercial use whilst the RTA investigates and considers the safety implications.

In the interim, electric scooters will not be allowed on roads or sidewalks as they fall under the same category as motorbikes, which require a specialist licence.

Mousa Al Raeis, director of monitoring and enforcement at the RTA, says it's a safety measure.
