Road upgrades to slash commute time in Dubai

Major road improvement works have been completed along Dubai's Algeria Street, which is set to ease traffic around Muhaisnah 1 and Al Mizhar 1 areas.

The project covers a stretch of 2 km, starting from the intersection of Algeria Street and Al Khawaneej Street (South) to the intersection of Tunis Street (North).

According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), a section of Algeria Street has been widened from two to three lanes in each direction, increasing the road's capacity from 6,000 vehicles to 9,000 vehicles per hour.

New cycling tracks, pedestrian zones and additional parking spaces have also come up, while a roundabout in the area has been transformed into a signalised junction to provide left turns to serve residential communities.

"These improvements contribute to improving road quality and reducing the travel time between Al Khawaneej Street and Tunis Street from 15 minutes to just 7 minutes during peak hours," said Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of the RTA's Roads and Traffi Agency.
