Passengers are being advised not to head to the Dubai Airport "unless absolutely necessary" due to the "unprecedented weather conditions in the UAE".

In a statement sent to ARN News, Dubai International (DXB) spokesperson said, "Flights continue to be delayed and diverted."

Travellers are urged to check directly with their airline for the latest information on the status of their flight.

DXB added that they are "working hard to recover operations as quickly as possible in very challenging conditions".

It's after heavy downpours, thunder and lightening hit the UAE on Tuesday, causing flooding and road closures across the country.

In a post on social media, DXB said they are continuously working to restore normal operations, after 21 outbound and 24 inbound flights were cancelled on Tuesday.

The airport is now in recovery mode, and have arranged refreshments, where possible, for guests currently at the airport.

Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways have both said passengers are expected to witness some delays on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, flydubai resumed partial operations from Dubai International (DXB) from 10:00 am on Wednesday.

According to a flydubai spokesperson, "select outbound flights will operate from Terminal 2 at Dubai International (DXB) with scheduled operations resuming after 8:00 pm (Dubai Time), while flights from Terminal 3 are scheduled to resume after midnight.

In an update, Air Arabia announced it has cancelled or rescheduled flights after torrential rain left several parts inundated.

"Passengers are requested to visit our website or contact our dedicated call centre for the latest updates on their flight status," the airline said.
