On-demand bus service formally rolled out in Dubai

Commuters in Dubai can now use an on-demand bus service to get to different parts of the city.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has formally launched operations after completing a successful trial phase.

Al Barsha 1, Dubai Internet City, The Greens, International City and Dubai Silicon Oasis are some of the locations currently covered.

The minibuses that operate on flexible routes and schedules can be booked through a dedicated app.

Officials say the service will help reduce the waiting time for riders and also connect them with the nearest public transport station.

"The initiative provides service to areas of low-demand public transport, reduces operational costs in view of the fixed service times, integrates with public transport means, and reduces riders waiting time," said Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA's Public Transport Agency.
