Japan has broken ground on its pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The country's Ambassador to the UAE officially marked the beginning of construction on the site, which focuses on 'Connections between the Middle East and Japan' and 'Sustainability'.

Officials say the pavilion will utilise an environmentally-friendly, natural cooling mechanism inspired by traditional Arabic and Japanese technologies.
