Indian Embassy in UAE warns of scam

There's a new online scam doing the rounds, and this time it's under the name of the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

The diplomatic mission said fraudsters have been using a fake Twitter handle and email id to collect money from Indian nationals seeking help in travelling from the UAE to India.

It has called on people not to respond to such messages and to always double-check e-mail IDs and social media accounts to avoid getting cheated.

"It has been brought to the notice of the Embassy that some people are cheating innocent Indian nationals by sending messages and collecting money to arrange their travel from the UAE to India through the twitter handle ‘@embassy_help’ and email ID ‘ind_embassy.mea.gov@protonmail.com’," the Embassy said in an advisory.

"Kindly note that email IDs of all Indian Missions/Posts always end with domain @mea.gov.in," the mission added.

All official email IDs, Twitter handle, Facebook ID and telephone numbers are also mentioned on the Embassy's official website.
