A lifeguard at Mirage Hotel Fujairah has been hailed a hero after she saved a toddler from drowning.

Angel Nakabiito, a trained lifeguard, completed the CPR technique on the two-year-old after he had almost drowned in the hotel pool as the helpless parents watched on.

"I followed protocol, gave him five initial breaths and thankfully was able to resuscitate him," she recalled, expressing pride and happiness at being able to save a life.

Talking to DubaiEye 103.8's Afternoons with Helen Farmer, Angel urged parents to be more vigilant when their children are in the pool.

She has been awarded a certificate of appreciation from the UAE’s Ministry of Interior, a letter of recognition from the Mirage Hotel in Fujairah, and lifetime Lifeguard refresher training and licence renewals from Blue Guard ME.

Luke Cunningham, Founder and Managing Director of Blue Guard, said it's the training centre's mission to "make everyone a life saver and build safer communities".

He stressed the importance of listening to the instructions laid down by lifeguards.
