H.H. Sheikh Hamdan launches Dubai Police's Genome Centre

WAM

Dubai Police’s Genome Centre is dedicated to supporting policing work by developing advanced tests in forensic identification, genetics and metagenomics.

The Centre, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, places Dubai Police at the forefront of law enforcement agencies worldwide in terms of genomic science.

During his visit, to the Dubai Police Officers Club, His Highness was briefed on the forensic entomology project, which involves using a regional database, specialised expertise and forensic science to determine the cause of death in less than 24 hours –  a vast reduction from the global average which is between 3 – 14 days.

His Highness was also shown ‘Brain Fingerprint’ technology that measures brainwave activity to help solve criminal cases. The system works by showing suspects crime scene images and monitoring changes in frequencies.
