H.H. Sheikh Hamdan appointed as UAE Deputy PM, Minister of Defence

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has announced the appointment of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, as Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, and UAE Minister of Defence.

Sheikh Mohammed announced the appointment on social media platform X on Sunday.

His Highness wrote that Sheikh Hamdan is "a leader who loves the people...and the people love him...and we have great confidence that he will be a great addition to the UAE government... and a major contributor to shaping the future of the UAE."

Thanking His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for their trust, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan wrote on X, "we renew the pledge and promise to our wise leadership and our dear people to continue following the path of Zayed and Rashid, so that the flag of the Union remains flying and that we work in the spirit of one team in order to preserve our development gains. And building a better future for our country and our people".

As part of government amendments, Sheikh Mohammed also announced the appointment of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to his duties as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
