The fare for the Bus On-Demand service in Dubai's Business Bay area has been slashed from AED 5 to AED 2.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said that the reduced charges will encourage more people to use the service and contribute to easing traffic congestion.
"The service is expected to witness broader uptake among public transport users, particularly as the fare reduction applies to a vital area. Additionally, it facilitates travel between two adjacent areas, enhancing integration within the public transport network and enabling passengers to reach their destinations quickly and safely," said Adel Shakri, Director of Planning & Business Development at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency.
He added that the initiative, which helps with first and last-mile trips, is set to expand to 10 areas by mid-2025, with a fleet of 41 small buses.
Passengers can request rides and make payments through the Dubai Bus On-Demand app.
