Etihad to plant a mangrove tree for every economy space seat sold

Etihad Airways has committed to plant a mangrove tree for every Economy Space seat sold.

It follows the launch of the Etihad Forest, an initiative by the carrier to focus on biodiversity, wildlife and environmental protection.

In a statement, the UAE carrier said passengers booking for Economy Space seats can "offset their carbon emissions" with the planting of a mangrove tree as it remove up to four times more carbon dioxide from the air than other tropical forests.

Each mangrove planted alone will absorb up to 250kg of CO2 in its lifetime – the same amount produced by an eight-hour flight, the airline added in their statement.

The initiative aims to plant 182,000 mangrove trees in by the first quarter of 2023 in Abu Dhabi.
