Emirates will operate passenger flights four times a week into Johannesburg from December 1.

That's according to the latest travel update from the carrier, which clarified that they will not permit outbound passengers from Johannesburg "due to current travel restrictions".

Additionally, Emirates will continue to suspend passenger operations to and from Durban and Cape Town.

"Customers affected by flight cancellations do not need to call us immediately for rebooking," said the travel update, adding that, "customers can simply hold on to their Emirates ticket and when flights resume, get in touch with their travel agent or booking office to make new travel plans".

Earlier, the airline announced that an inbound travel ban will apply for passengers from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe over concerns over omicorn.
