Emirates Red Crescent donates 10 ambulances to northern Iraq

WAM

Ten ambulances have been donated by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) to health facilities in northern Iraq as the organisation intensifies its aid operation in the region.

The ERC has launched a winter campaign, providing clothes, food and humanitarian aid to Syrian and Iraqi refugees in 14 camps.

The organisation is also assisting Kurdistan’s battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's set up the "Ataya Hospital for Motherhood and Childhood" in Erbil to treat virus cases.

The hospital is financed by proceeds from the Ataya Charity Exhibition, which was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the wife of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, Deputy Chairman of the ERC for Women’s Affairs and Chairperson of the Higher Committee of the Ataya Initiative.

Dr Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, noted Sheikh Hamdan’s monitoring of the humanitarian and development situation in Iraqi Kurdistan, most notably the health situation, which is a key priority for the ERC in Iraq.

Al Falahi added that the ERC has adopted a plan to strengthen the capacities of health establishments in Northern Iraq and help them overcome their current challenges.
