Inmates of Dubai Prison received more than AED 4.4 million in financial aid from philanthropists and charitable organisations during the first six months of this year.

The funds have helped settle the debts of several prisoners and repatriate those who have served their sentences.

The donations also covered the inmates' medical treatment costs, in addition to providing financial support to their families.

Brigadier Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments said that almost half of the financial aid received in the first half of this year contributed to the release of 40 inmates involved in financial cases.

Brig. Julfar lauded the support of the donors, and emphasised the significance of their contributions in making a positive difference in the lives of the inmates and their families.
