Dubai Economy orders two-week closure for commercial outlets

All shops, barring those outlets that provide essential services, have been ordered to close for two weeks, starting today.

That's the directive from Dubai Economy, which added that those businesses closing down can continue online sales and e-commerce activities.

It's in line with preventive measures announced by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

What is open?

Supermarkets, cooperative societies, grocery stores and pharmacies will remain open 24|7, however, number of shoppers will be limited so they can maintain social distance protocols.

Bakeries, car workshops, laundries, and technical and electrical service providers will continue to operate, while restaurants and cafes can take home delivery orders.

Banks will continue to operate normally unless any other directive is issued by the UAE Central Bank.

Exchange houses and clinics can also continue to operate as usual with due regard to the guidelines on sanitisation.

What will close?

Fish, meat, and vegetable markets (except wholesalers supplying to supermarkets), shisha cafes, gyms and fitness centres, theme parks, amusement centres and e-game outlets, cinemas, men’s and women’s salons, massage parlours and spas, and spring camps will be shut until April 8.

Restaurants, cafes, cafeterias, coffee shops, and food outlets will also stop dine-in services.
