Arab Quartet confirms boycott of IPU meeting in Qatar

WAM

The Arab Quartet has submitted a joint statement to the General Secretariat of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), raising an objection to Qatar’s hosting of the 140th General Assembly.

The Quartet – comprising the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt - said it would boycott the meeting if it is held in Doha (April 6-10).

It said they were willing to change their decision if Qatar responds to their demands to cease its support for terrorism and stop intervention in internal affairs of countries of the region.

Their statement was issued during the 139th General Assembly held in Geneva.
