Abu Dhabi to cover fees for expats' death-related procedures

Abu Dhabi's 'Sanadkom' initiative, which simplifies government procedures for bereaved families, has now been expanded to include all residents in the emirate, including expatriates.

Since its launch in January 2024, the initiative led by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), has been offering support for obtaining death certificates, arranging burials and preparing the deceased for travel if needed.

The Sanadkom team reaches out to grieving families after the issuance of a death notice, offering assistance with all necessary procedures.

The services are provided through a centralised digital platform, connecting seven government entities, which eliminates the need for personal visits.

In partnership with Abu Dhabi's Authority of Social Contribution – Ma'an, the initiative also covers all related government fees, including those for death certificates, ambulance transportation, embalming and repatriation.

Families of the deceased will also be able to process the procedures directly at healthcare facilities where the passing occurred, with the doctor-in-charge helping with the necessary procedures, including the completion of the report and obtaining permits.
