Abu Dhabi to ban Styrofoam cups from June 1

WAM

Abu Dhabi will ban the use of Styrofoam cups and other products such as take away boxes from June 1, in a bid to reduce its plastic pollution.

The emirate will ban cups, lids and plates made from the plastic foam material as part of a wider initiative to reduce the amount of single-use products.

The ban is in addition to the ban of single-use plastic bags, which came into effect in June 2022.

Styrofoam items that are not considered single use, such as storage boxes, coolers and trays are exempt from the ban.

From June 1 the Dubai Government will also be introducing a law banning single-use plastics.
