As many as 659 prisoners in Dubai have been pardoned ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

It comes following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed's gesture is aimed at giving the pardoned inmates an opportunity to restart their life and reintegrate into society.

It will also help ease the distress of their families.

Dubai Public Prosecution has already commenced the legal procedures to implement Sheikh Mohammed’s order.

Meanwhile, His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has also ordered the release of 210 inmates, and His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has ordered the release of 345 prisoners.
