Six German tourists have been killed after a motorist crashed into a group of people in northern Italy.

Eleven others were injured in the incident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday in the small town of Luttach in South Tyrol.

The driver of the car, who failed a breath test for alcohol, has been arrested.

Authorities said they do not believe the crash was intentional, but an investigation is underway.
