Passenger plane crashes in Kazakhstan, killing at least 15

HO / KAZAKHSTAN'S EMERGENCIES COMMITTEE / AFP

A plane with 100 people on board crashed shortly after takeoff from the Almaty airport in Kazakhstan, killing at least 15 people.

Airport authorities said there were survivors and emergency workers were on site.

The country's Civil Aviation Committee said the Bek Air flight was heading to the capital Nur-Sultan when it "lost altitude during takeoff and broke through a concrete fence" before hitting a small building.

The authority has suspended all flights by Bek Air pending the results of an investigation.
