Kamala Harris ends bid for US presidency

California Senator Kamala Harris has dropped out of the 2020 presidential race in the US, citing a lack of funds.

After kicking off her campaign nearly a year ago, Harris had gained immense attention, and applause, for taking on former Vice President Joe Biden at the first Democratic debate in June.

But the polling and fundraising boost that followed the debate was short-lived, and she never managed to break into the top ranks of candidates.

"My campaign for president simply doesn't have the financial resources we need to continue," she said to her supporters via video.

"But I want to be clear with you," she added. "I am still very much in this fight."
