French President Emmanuel Macron pledged "full solidarity" with Israel but warned against the risks of a regional conflict as he arrived in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.

Macron is scheduled to meet Israel's President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and centrist opposition leaders Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid.

The French president will call for the protection of civilian lives in Gaza, the Elysee said, adding that he will call for a "humanitarian truce" to allow aid to enter the region and the release of hostages.

He will also meet families of French victims at Tel Aviv airport.

Macron is also "likely to hold talks" with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas , Jordanian King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Gulf leaders, and work towards de-escalation of the conflict and a two-state solution.
