Residents in Southern California are bracing for dangerous aftershocks following Friday's powerful quake, as crews continued to assess the aftermath.

The US Geological Survey said Friday's quake was followed by at least 16 aftershocks of magnitude 4 or greater, and warned of another magnitude 6 quake in the coming days.

There were several minor to moderate injuries, but "no reports of any fatalities", officials added.

US President Donald Trump has issued an emergency declaration so the state can get federal aid.
