'Leaving Neverland' wins Emmy for top documentary special

'Leaving Neverland' took home the gold for best documentary or nonfiction special at the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday.

Beyonce's 2018 Coachella festival concert film Homecoming went into the ceremony with six Emmy nominations but didn't win in any category. 

James Corden's Carpool Karaoke special with former Beatle Paul McCartney won pre-recorded variety special, while the filmed version of Bruce Springsteen's much-loved Broadway show took home the honour for variety special directing.

The Simpsons won the Emmy for best animated series, while travel and food show "Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown" won two Emmys.

The main Emmy awards will be handed out on September 22.
