David Beckham makes soccer balls from banana leaves

David Beckham has been making soccer balls out of banana leaves in Papua New Guinea. The 40-year-old retired sportsman is currently travelling the world to mark a decade of working with the children's charity UNICEF, playing matches in seven continents, and David has taken to Instagram to reveal the primitive techniques he's been using to start a game on the Pacific island. Alongside an image of himself making the balls, David wrote: "I don't think I've ever made a football before a game before, this one is made from banana leaves. The hat was given to me the tribe #LoveOfTheGame. (sic)" In another snap on his Instagram, the former England captain can be seen posing alongside a team bus that bears his name and iconic shirt number, seven. David wrote: "Team bus on the way to our first match in Papua New Guinea. 7 games in 7 continents...#LoveOfTheGame. (sic)" As well as playing in Papua New Guinea, David is also set to test his skills in Antarctica, Nepal, Buenos Aires, the desert plains of Djibouti and Miami. The soccer legend - who will play with two teams drawn from the local community for a new BBC documentary - previously said: "This epic journey will allow me to show the positive side of the game I love and shine a light on the passion and selflessness of people that play this sport as a force for good."
