Charlie Sheen: I may be bipolar

Charlie Sheen thinks he has bipolar disorder. The 'Anger Management' actor admits various medical experts have warned him he could suffer from the condition - which typically sees sufferers experience bouts of both depression and manic behaviour - and he thinks it could be responsible for some of his battles with addiction. Speaking on 'Dr. Oz' yesterday (18.01.16), he said: "I've been described or diagnosed by enough people that I guess at some point you have to take a look at it... "Manic behaviour is usually in the throes of departing substance abuse and drinking. "It doesn't really happen when I'm not doing that." But the 50-year-old star insists he has never viewed his mood swings as a problem. He said: "They've always seemed normal to me. hat's as honest as I can be. I've just accepted it as part of my make-up. "I don't look at it as mania, I just look at it as the very... interesting universe." Charlie - who announced in November he is HIV Positive - is unsure whether he wants to take medication for bipolar disorder but would "consider" it. He said: "What else is it going to 'fix'? I would certainly consider [taking] it, sure." The programme's host, Dr. Mehmet Oz, believes Charlie's openness will help other sufferers with managing the condition. He said: "Charlie is brave and at a point where he is taking an honest look at his health and sharing it with the world. "The message in Monday's show is that there is hope and successful treatment for bipolar disorder but, if left untreated it will exacerbate other problems like substance abuse and compulsive gambling."
