Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan has been discharged from the hospital after testing negative for COVID-19.

His son, and actor, Abhishek Bachchan took to Twitter to announce the news.

The father-son tested positive for the virus on July 11, and had shifted to the Nanavati hospital in Mumbai.

"I am back home in solitary quarantine," Bachchan later announced on his own social media channel, while thanking the hospital staff for their care.

It comes just days after Abhishek's wife, and actor, Aishwarya Rai, and daughter, Aaradhya, returned home after testing negative for the virus.

Meanwhile, Abhishek continues to be in the hospital.

The actor explained that it was because "some comorbidities remain COVID-19 positive".
