Sharjah airport sees major surge in passenger traffic

Sharjah Airport witnessed a 142.74 per cent increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2022.

Between January and June, the airport welcomed more than 6 million travellers, up from nearly 2.5 million in the first half of 2021.

There was also an 89.73 per cent growth in overall flight operations, with a total of 41,189 aircraft operating in H1 2022 compared to 21,709 during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the airport handled 96,000 tonnes of cargo between January and June, which is a 50.39 per cent rise compared to the previous year.

"The figures represent the confidence and trust that a large number of travelers place in Sharjah Airport," said Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority.
