WhatsApp launches public safety ad campaign in India

Days after the Indian government pulled up WhatsApp and asked it to take urgent steps to prevent the spread of misinformation, the instant messaging service has launched full-page advertisements in leading Indian newspapers.

Over the last three months, 29 people have been lynched by mobs across eight Indian states after locals mistook them to be child abductors – following viral messages circulated on WhatsApp.
