UN official in Syria expects evacuation of Ghouta civilians Tuesday
A UN top official in Syria said civilian evacuations from eastern Ghouta rebel enclave was likely to take place on Tuesday.
This comes after the Jaish al-Islam, one of the main rebel factions, said it had reached an agreement with Russia to evacuate wounded people.
UN had previously called for the evacuation of nearly 1,000 sick people who need urgent medical treatment.
According to local authorities, families are forced to sleep on the streets as there’s no more room in basements to shelter from the bombs.
The army’s campaign of air and artillery strikes has killed more than 1,100 civilians in almost a month, the UN said.
