Ugandan MP sparks online outrage after saying ‘beat your wife’
A politician in Uganda has been forced to retract his statement about domestic violence and apologise to victims of abuse.
Speaking on Ugandan television channel NTV, Onesimus Twinamasiko said men should “beat” their wives.
“As a man, you need to discipline your wife,” he said.
His words have met with strong criticism from social media users, with women’s rights groups and activists calling for his resignation.
