UAE to introduce safety regulations for self-driving vehicles

The UAE will soon have federal requirements in place to ensure the safety of self-driving vehicles.

The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA) has issued a draft of the regulations, which will be made public at an event in November.

Officials say the UAE is the first country in the region to have safety legislation ready before autonomous cars are introduced on the streets.

Khalaf Khalaf, Director of ESMA’s Standards Department, explains what the new laws will focus on.
