UAE beat India to boost Asian Cup hopes
The UAE beat India 2-0 in their Asian Cup Group A encounter in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Khalfan Mubarak Al Shamsi (41’) and Ali Ahmed Mabkhout (88’) scored in either halves at Sheikh Zayed Sports City stadium to put the game beyond India’s reach.
The result takes the hosts to the top of the group with four points, while India have slipped to second spot with three points.
Thailand have moved up to third after edging Bahrain 1-0 in the other Group A encounter, played at Dubai’s Rashid Stadium.
Meanwhile, Jordan became the first team to advance to the knockout rounds of the tournament.
Vital Borkelmans’ side handed Syria a 2-0 defeat in Al Ain to seal their spot in the Round of 16.
